Pop-Up Tipi in the Paddock

Matthew usually picks a simple no choice menu inspired by his travels, something he’s read or an awesomely delicious meal he’s eaten.

As much as possible he cooks outside using maybe a clay oven, Argentinian grill, tandoor or anything that embraces good, honest outdoor cooking methods. The smell of wood smoke wafting through the tipi is primal and reaffirming.

They run the popup restaurant from their home in rural Norfolk, usually once a month and for one night only.

The best way to hear about them is to get on the mailing list or to follow Matthew on facebook.

If you are coming along why not stay in their B&B – spacious double with ensuite shower room. Please see our link to the B&B website.

It’s best to book by email, but do be aware that your booking is not confirmed until we contact you guys to acknowledge your reservation.

We suggest getting a group of your mates together and share a very quirky, alternative dining experience.

It’s cash only and we don’t have a liquor license so dig out that bottle or case of burgundy that needs drinking up and bring it along!

“There is a basic difference between eating in the Chinese style and eating in the West. In Western meals the dishes are eaten consecutively; a soup followed by an hors d’oeuvre, then a main dish, followed by a dessert, or a selection of cheeses, winding up with coffee. This is a pattern which does not vary very much for a party meal at home or a mayoral banquet. A Chinese family meal is essentially a spread, with all the dishes, whether fish, fowl, egg, vegetables or soup, brought to the table at the same time. Since all the dishes are highly savoury, rice is eaten throughout the meal to cushion and absorb this savouriness, as well as to provide bulk.”
